Position Summary

POSITION SUMMARY

Portland Community College’s Veterinary Technology (VT) program is a regional leader in educating the next generation of Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT). We are currently looking for a Program Support Specialist who has strong CVT knowledge and experience, can balance academic rigor with practical application, and is committed to equitable student success. 

 

The Program Support Specialist plays a vital role in the Veterinary Technology Program and is based at PCC’s Rock Creek Campus. This position’s primary responsibilities are

  • Kennel Management, including the procurement and disposition of program animals and accompanying USDA documentation

  • Casual & student worker supervision & coordination

  • Lab Support for Vet Tech courses

Candidate Profile

  • Ability to professionally collaborate, communicate, and coordinate with multiple external and internal stakeholders. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and resourcefully to progressively meet multiple deadlines.

  • Demonstrated experience educating diverse populations, while utilizing strong interpersonal skills in group and one-on-one settings.

  • Experience working as lead CVT, or managing employees, including schedule coordination and supervising the day-to-day work of part-time employees.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as an integral part of the medical team to maintain animal health and well-being. 

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree or the equivalent in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited institution, and

  • At least 5 years experience working in a veterinary hospital, clinic, research facility, or the equivalent, and

  • State of Oregon Certification as a licensed Veterinary Technician (CVT), or license-eligible with license acquired prior to initial teaching assignment.

Starting Salary Expectations $62,753 to $64,950 (Step 3); based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. .STARTING.SALARY.VERBIAGE

Paid Leave: (Pro-rated by FTE for Part-Time Employees)

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Work is often performed in a variety of settings, often a lab or outdoor environment, caring for animals. 
Work hours vary with the season and requirements of the farm, livestock and programs. Requires occasional physical effort such as lifting, digging, handling of large animals and extensive walking/standing.
