Position Summary

PCC Library is hiring an Electronic Resources Librarian. As a member of the Library’s Technical Services department, the Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for maintaining the Library’s online research collections, including making electronic content discoverable and accessible, configuring vendor interfaces, troubleshooting access problems, supporting linking across multiple research platforms, analyzing and interpreting data, and developing and delivering training to library employees.

The Electronic Resources Librarian is a member of PCC Library’s centralized Technical Services department, and supports our community at all PCC campuses and online. The person in this position collaborates across all library departments and participates in the work of the Orbis Cascade Alliance, an academic library consortium in the Pacific Northwest.

This position will be based at the Sylvania campus, with remote work options for part of the week.


***Principal Accountabilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Electronic resource management methods

  • Authentication methods including IP/proxy and single sign-on 

  • Library metadata standards including MARC, RDA, and beyond

  • Large-scale data manipulation approaches

  • Web accessibility standards and tools

  • Various electronic resource management standards and tools, such as, but not limited to COUNTER, KBART, OpenURL, SERU, SUSHI.


Skills in:

  • Demonstrated skill in providing original and complex copy cataloging in a contemporary MARC-based environment according to national, consortial, and local standards

  • Analyzing, researching, and resolving problems

  • Communicating technical information verbally and in writing to broad audiences

  • Analyzing statistical information


Ability to:

  • Ability to work closely with internal and external stakeholders, and across a variety of metadata standards and formats, to support a comprehensive and cohesive approach to the discovery, presentation, and delivery of the library’s resources;

  • Work independently and be self-directed;

  • Prioritize multiple tasks and adapt to needed changes;

  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing;

  1. Experience managing library electronic resources through their lifecycle: configuring collections and batch loading records to an ILS, proxy or other authentication methods, improving linking parameters, and ensuring discoverability and accessibility. 

  2. Experience working with library electronic resources vendors on trials, usage data collection, and accessibility testing and improvements. Experience configuring vendor platforms and troubleshooting access issues.

  4. valuating vendor-provided metadata quality and batch manipulating records. Experience automating repetitive database maintenance tasks. 

  5. Experience collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and communicating usage and access data to library employees to help them understand user trends/needs and to facilitate data-driven electronic resource purchase and management decisions. 

  6. Experience collaborating and communicating with colleagues across departments.

  7. Demonstrates an active interest in the evolving library electronic resources landscape.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Master’s degree in library science (MLS) or library and information science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited school or international equivalent.
  • One year of experience in library electronic resource management, specifically vendor platform configuration, linking, and integrated library system records management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Ex Libris’ Alma and Primo systems, including the Metadata Editor and bibliographic systems jobs; experience with bibliographic and cataloging tools such as OCLC Connexion and WorldShare Management Services.

  • Experience with EZproxy

  • Experience configuring library vendor platforms

  • Automating repetitive data manipulation tasks employing tools such as MarcEdit, Excel, and scripting languages (e.g. SQL, Python, VBA, Google Apps script, etc.) for advanced database maintenance tasks and resource lifecycle tasks, especially for batch record manipulation and electronic material tracking.

Starting Salary Expectations $66,831.00 (Step 1) to $71,591.00 (Step 3); based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Work is performed primarily on a computer in the library and office.  Interruptions are expected and occur frequently and the incumbent must have the ability to prioritize work.
Incumbent must stay current with evolving library technology.
Incumbent may occasionally be required to drive between campuses using a personal vehicle.
