Position Summary

The Business Administration (BA) Program at Portland Community College (PCC) is seeking a full-time instructor for Business Administration with a specialization in Accounting. 

The BA program is a part of the Business & Entrepreneurship (B&E) Academic pathway. The program serves over 5,000 students annually and offers courses through flexible delivery modalities: fully online (asynchronous), online (synchronous/remote - live instruction via zoom), on-site/hybrid, and fully on-site at multiple PCC locations. We strive to provide high quality culturally competent instruction and services with commitment to student success.


You will be joining a team of 14 full-time and over 60 part-time BA faculty members. As a BA Accounting faculty, you will teach courses in the Accounting sequence such as BA 111 Introduction to Accounting, BA 211 Principles of Accounting, BA 213 Managerial Accounting, BA 218 Personal Finance, BA 228 Computer Accounting Applications, BA 256 Income Tax, BA 222 Financial Management, and other related courses. Beyond the instructional load, faculty in this position will work with the BA Accounting faculty team to ensure the quality of the academic curriculum using culturally responsive teaching methodologies, provide mentorship to other faculty, and work with colleagues to advance the Business program and the college community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Hold a master’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics or other business-related field; completed at least 30 quarter hours of accounting credits (undergraduate or graduate); three years of full-time equivalent non-teaching accounting work experience required; and CPA or CMA licensing and prior teaching experience is preferred

OR

  • Hold a post baccalaureate certificate in accounting or a bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics or other business-related field; completed at least 30 quarter hours of accounting credits (undergraduate or graduate); and over three years of full-time equivalent non-teaching accounting work experience and CPA or CMA licensing. Teaching experience is preferred.

  • CPA or CMA licensing 
  • Community college or higher education teaching experience

  • Partner and collaborate with colleagues and community stakeholders using effective intercultural communication, diplomacy, and advocacy skills.
  • Willingness to innovate and be creative in presenting class materials and activate learning using current technology and up-to-date content.,
  • Experience utilizing current and relevant accounting and financial tools, software, and/or    Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • The ability to adapt your schedule to teach in several modalities such as fully online (asynchronous), online (synchronous/remote -live instruction via zoom), on-site/online, and fully on-site at
    multiple PCC locations as well as balance multiple projects and tasks.
  • Experience adapting teaching or training strategies and practices to meet the needs of a wide range of learners with respect to different learning styles, knowledge backgrounds, abilities, experiences, and perspectives.
Starting Salary Expectations Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($73,911) and Step 3 (78,408) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement.

PCC offers a comprehensive benefit package designed to provide employees and their families, including domestic partners, with access to a broad range of benefit options. PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP.  A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049.  PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.
Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions. 


* Please note: Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.
Paid Leave:
1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)
21 hours of additional personal leave per year
4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)

Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.

Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard.
