Position Summary

Portland Community College’s Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program  is a regional leader in educating the next generation of Medical Laboratory Technicians. We are currently looking for a Program Support Specialist who has strong current laboratory knowledge and experience, who can balance academic rigor with practical application, and is committed to equitable student success. 

 

The Program Support Specialist plays a vital role in the MLT Program and is based at PCC’s Cascade Campus. This position’s primary responsibilities are

  • Preparing the program's laboratory activities and supporting students in lab

  • Inventory management and supply purchases

  • Assisting with placement of students into clinical rotations

  • Assisting with program outreach efforts

  • Knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot basic clinical diagnostic laboratory procedures.

  • Experience working in a clinical diagnostic laboratory and/or performing clinical diagnostic testing across multiple departments.

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders including industry professionals and college faculty and managers across multiple disciplines. 

  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to diverse groups of students in a cohesive, inclusive manner. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and resourcefully to meet multiple deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Associate degree in medical laboratory technology or related field, and MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent, and

  • 3 years of recent experience working in a clinical laboratory setting or 3 years of teaching experience in clinical laboratory science or a related field.

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in lab science, or health related field (Experience performing the duties of this job may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis). MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent, and

  • 1 year of recent experience working in a clinical laboratory setting or 2 years of teaching experience in a clinical laboratory science or a related field.

 
Position Grade 3
Starting Salary Expectations Minimum $30.17/hour to range midpoint of $31.23/hour. Placement will generally not exceed the mid-point, based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
Position Grade Salary Range $62,753.00 to $108,812.00 Annual Salary

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Physical ability to sit, stand and move freely about the laboratory; Lift, move and carry up to 50 pounds is occasionally required; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to efficiently, accurately and safely operate laboratory equipment; visual abilities to accurately perform and interpret laboratory tests (correctable vision to read size 8font print, distinguish colors, distinguish shades and accurate depth perception); hearing abilities to distinguish a range of instrument alarm tones.
