Position Summary

The Microelectronics Technology program at Portland Community College is seeking a full-time instructor effective as soon as possible or by August 21, 2023 beginning the 2023/2024 academic year.
 
The emphasis of this role for the first year is to support the development of our mechatronics programming at the college and in consultation with the Advanced Manufacturing Advisory Board. The PCC Microelectronics program serves a diverse population of students and is committed to equitable student success.
Microelectronics faculty positions require the ability to teach a broad range of mechatronics-related courses as well as develop future coursework in alignment with industry. The minimum qualifications for the position are posted at https://www.pcc.edu/instructor-qualifications/mt/
 
This position will teach courses at Willow Creek Opportunity Center and Rock Creek campus with occasional travel across PCC service district.

Schedule may include evening or weekend teaching assignments.

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to instruct a broad range of mechatronics-related  courses and techniques 
  • Demonstrated experience creating teaching curriculum or content related to mechatronics or another technical subject area
  • Demonstrated experience or understanding of how to implement strategies in the classroom that support equitable student success for all student populations we serve with a specific focus on success of historically marginalized groups and women entering advanced manufacturing.
  • Evidence of the commitment to the field of microelectronics and ongoing professional growth and development 
  • Demonstrates an awareness of the need to teach industry-specific content in ways that value and include differences in individual experiences, cultural, ethnic, gender, linguistic diversity and socioeconomic status.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

MT – Microelectronics Tech Instructor Qualifications

MT90, MT111, MT112, MT113, MT121, MT122

Fundamentals in electronic and digital circuits. Instructors need knowledge of material, and ability to teach concepts to students lacking relatable background

1.   MASTERS OF SCIENCE in physics or engineering

o   3 years industry experience preferred

o   Teaching experience is preferred

o   Demonstration of teaching competency in the subject

2.   BACHELORS OF SCIENCE in physics or engineering

o   Industry experience preferred

o   Teaching experience is preferred

o   Demonstration of teaching competency in related subject

o   Two quarters upper division coursework in the subject

3.   ASSOCIATES OF APPLIED SCIENCE degree required for employment in the semiconductor industry as an equipment technician

o   Demonstration of teaching competency in the subject:

o   Able to demonstrate teaching competence in all CCOG topics

MT222

Quality systems used in the semiconductor industry. Instructors need experience in quality systems as used in the semiconductor manufacturing area.

·        BACHELORS OF SCIENCE in physics, chemistry or engineering

o   Two years recent industry experience in manufacturing process control

o   Demonstration of teaching competency in the subject

MT101, MT102, MT103, MT104, MT200

Processes and procedures used in the semiconductor manufacturing industry. Instructors need experience in those processes and procedures.

·        MASTERS OF SCIENCE in physics, chemistry or engineering

o   Two years recent industry experience in semiconductor manufacturing process engineering

o   Demonstration of teaching competency in the subject, OR

·        BACHELORS OF SCIENCE in physics, chemistry or engineering with

o   Three years recent industry experience in semiconductor manufacturing process engineering

o   Demonstration of teaching competency in the subject

MT101, MT 103 and MT 104

Experience in manufacturing processes also allows

·        Any college degree in an industry-related field

·        Five years recent industry experience in related manufacturing

·        Demonstrated teaching ability in related topics

MT 180

High Tech Employment Strategies:

·        Any college degree and:

·        Additional training related to hiring and employment in manufacturing environments

·        Five years recent experience involving hiring in semiconductor manufacturing or a related field

·        Knowledge of employment law and current labor and market trends

·        Demonstrated teaching ability in related topics

Starting Salary Expectations Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($64,562) and Step 3 ($68,491) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement.

PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP.  A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049.  PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions. 

* Please note: Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.

Paid Leave:

  • 1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)
  • 21 hours of additional personal leave per year
  • 4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)

Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.
